I’ve given my $50 Xeon build some character!
I’m not finishing the dual socket build until I move. It’s super hard to restrain myself because I could also totally finish my offroad smart project right now too...but moving out is infinitely more important.
The cheap Xeon build’s board will take any LGA775 CPU. As a test, I put the highest power dual core LGA775 Xeon on the market. It works smashingly well.
To wrap this one up, I’m putting a GTX 750 in it, the fastest LGA775 quad Xeon, and I’ll max the RAM. Total cost will be under $100.
I expect to be getting my own place in about a month!!!! :D

Nicely done - I just decommissioned my dual socket 771 xeon workstation. It still ran alright, but with 2x 3ghz xeons the sucker was a space heater. I already unloaded the processors on eBay, but have a stack of DDR2 Registered RAM from it if you need any. I think the total in the system was something crazy like 48 GB. I didn’t game on it much, but it ran multiple VMs, SQL and computational loads like a champ.
